Giving Voice Back to Tuscan Archives: Caterina Bueno' Sound Archive
On the occasion of the World Voice Day, Thursday 16th April 2020, at 10:00, the video presenting the research project Archivio Vi.Vo. will be broadcast on YouTube and Facebook.
A Conference had been planned in Florence, with the patronage of the Tuscany Region and the participation of major scholars, researchers, sector stakeholders and policy makers, but the current dynamics related to the Coronavirus have made its realization impossible.
The voice of the Tuscan oral archives comes back to life because the digitization of tapes, reels and cassettes has allowed hundreds of hours of sound recordings to be saved from degradation.
Archivio Vi.Vo. is a research project that foresees the description and cataloging of Caterina Bueno' Sound Archive, consisting of valuable field surveys and the recording of rehearsals and concerts, as well as the construction of a research infrastructure that represents a model for archiving and consulting the oral archives of Tuscany.
The project is funded by the Tuscany Region and is carried out by:
Department of Education, Human Sciences and Intercultural Communication - University of Siena;
Institute for Computational Linguistics "A. Zampolli" - National Research Council of Italy;
Archival and Bibliographical Superintendence of Tuscany - Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities;
Union of Mountain Municipalities of Casentino.
At the end of the project, a significant portion of Caterina Bueno' Sound Archive will be made accessible and consultable within the CLARIN-IT infrastructure.
